English abstract:
The presentation will describe the operation principles of resonant-tunneling diodes (RTDs) and RTD oscillators. Different types of RTD oscillators will be discussed, highlighting their advantages and disadvantages. The high-frequency limitations of RTDs will be also addressed, it will be outlined, which parameters and which physical mechanisms determine the limitations and how one can overcome them. Further on, different types of RTD layer designs will be outlined, with their advantages and disadvantages. The level of the output power and the operating frequencies achieved with the RTD oscillators will be discussed.

The operation principles of RTDs as detectors will be also discussed, basic limitations and advantages of such detectors and also several recent novel concepts will be outlined.
