Kurzfassung englisch:
The present study concerns thoracic oximetry as a new method for the assessment of all three the oxyheamoglobin saturation, the cardiac activity and respiration. This is relevant for the screening of the sleep apnea syndrome, characterised by cessation of effective respiration and a decrease of oxyheamoglobin saturation. Compared to standard oximetry at a finger (distal region), the thoracic oximetry (non-distal region) yields accelerated assessment of oxyheamoglobin saturation, though restricted to relative changes. It offers synchronous monitoring of cardiac and respiratory activity even for obese patients. Further the thoracic oximetry sensor can be integrated into systems of other indispensable thoracic sensors, thus making a distal oxygen sensor redundant.
