Kurzfassung englisch:
Registration of eye movements and blink is essential for sleep monitoring as well as for psychiatric investigations. Standard registration systems, e.g. electrooculography or video recording, require a number of spatially distributed electrodes and (or) a complex monitoring system. There is a need for cheap, portable and single spot monitoring system. This paper presents first results on the applicability of magnetostrictive bending sensor. The sensor consists of a bilayer ribbon one end being surrounded by a coil for signal establishment. The sensor is agglutinated on the skin below the eye lids. During eye movements the bilayer is bent due to skin deformations. First results show high sensitivity to blink, up-and-down eyeball movements and dynamic, so called rapid eye movements.
