Kurzfassung englisch:
The present paper describes the applicability of a novel bending sensor built up using a magnetoelastic bilayer enclosed by a pick-up coil. The bilayer consists of a magnetostrictive amorphous ribbon glued on a nonmagnetic metal ribbon. Bending the bilayer, the amorphous ribbon experiences mechanical strain of constant sign in its whole volume. It results in large changes of permeability utilised by the pick-up coil. The sensor's effectiveness is demonstrated on the neck and on the chest wall monitoring cardiorespiratory activity and interrupted breathing, as being relevant for the so-called sleep apnea syndrome. The easy-to-handle sensor does not cause any inconvenience to the patient and offers multiple physiological information.
